Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450g ground beef (lean)
  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ cup water or beef broth
  • Optional: cayenne hot sauce, cumin

Instructions

  • Brown the Ground Beef: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and chopped onion. Cook until beef is no longer pink, breaking it into very small crumbles. Drain excess grease if needed.
Add Garlic & Seasoning: Add minced garlic, chili powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Toast spices for 30 seconds.
Add Sauces: Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Mix well.
Add Water & Simmer: Pour in ½ cup water or broth. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thick and scoopable. Adjust thickness with water or simmer longer if needed.
Taste & Adjust: Adjust seasoning with extra chili powder, mustard, or ketchup if desired.
Serve: Spoon chili onto hot dogs, fries, nachos, or baked potatoes. Add toppings like shredded cheddar, diced onions, mustard, jalapeños, or pickled peppers as desired.
