Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples peeled and sliced (about 1.5 lbs / 700g)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • ½ cup 100g granulated sugar
  • ½ cup 100g brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg optional
  • 1 cup 90g rolled oats
  • ¾ cup 95g all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup 115g unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • ¼ cup 30g chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Peel, core, and slice the apples evenly.
In a large bowl, toss the apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well coated.
Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
In a separate bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and chopped nuts (if using).
Add the cold cubed butter and rub it into the mixture using your fingers or a pastry cutter until crumbly with pea-sized clumps.
Sprinkle the oat crumble topping evenly over the apples.
Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
If the topping browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil during the last part of baking.
Remove from the oven and let cool for 10–15 minutes before serving.
